For the price of the stock crank and rods, you can probably find something aftermarket that's a bit stronger. Also, for a NA motor I'd probably stick with a stock oil pump instead of the high volume unless you intend to run a larger oil pan. And invest in a good set of ARP head bolts, rod bolts, and main studs.

And have it all balanced while your at it.

Ya,

There is nothing wrong with using your friends parts. Just make sure they don't need any work. Check on what it's going to take to have the rods resized ect. You still might be better off going with some Eagle I beams
You should go over that list it's the most complete list I've ever seen.
I'm building my own and the little stuff really adds up

Dave,

How did you get AI to port your heads for only $1,000?
Thats more than a deal

Ok, you said new so I thought you meant brand new. My bad. Main reason I don't like to use a high volume oil pump with a stock pan is that you can possibly suck the pan dry at high RPM. A stock LT1 oil pump is quite adequate for a street car.

That's misleading, sorry. The left column is what I owe, the right column is what I've paid. So, I've paid him $1000 so far, I still owe what's in the left column...

$800 more went out to him today. Shouldn't owe him much more after this.

I am using a stock oil pump with a 6,800rpm redline and over 800rwhp. High voume pump may suck the sump dry and it takes extra hp to turn it. So why bother?
