Pacesetter LT's with AIR/EGR or race?

Does deleting the EGR really not help performance?
correct me if I am wrong but doesnt the EGR suck the hot exhaust gases back into the intake? I know people use CAI to increase performance so it seems that hot exhaust gas would decrease performance.
