Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
I started my install today for my 95 Trans Am. I got Pacesetter Longtubes with emission fittings. Well I have both of my manifolds off and im bout to put on the ENG fittings on the new headers and niether the driverside or passengerside fitting fits into the new header??? I removed the two fittings from manifold for both sides and wanted to put them onto the header before I put it in but they are too small for the new header!?!? They just slide right in and dont fit up with the threads!!! Am I missing something or did I not get a part I needed??? Im looking on summits site at the pic and there is nothing in the pic I dont have

Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
Here is a pic of what im talking about. The spot on the new headers are too large and I cant screw in the Fitting that will hook up with the EGR pipes. Is there suppose to be a spacer or something that comes out of the manifold or that comes with my headers???

Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
I'm actually on the same part you are. I have a 95 ta, with everything you have cept mine are coated. Mine go in, but go in with some serious muscle. PM me if you need anything.
BTW, i tried installing them, and they are in a different position then the stock, and just ended up having them snipped and welded. pita. Now im figuring out a fix to get the rest of the air system plugged. I haven't touched the egr though, looks like it'll go on ok!

Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
Cap off the AIR if that is the problem. Otherwise the fittings on the AIR are bronze color, and should screw onto the fittings on the headers. I had no problems and have the same headers. As stated above, check with summit.
Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
Ok well i descided to just weld the fitting on. The headers arnt coated so I dont have to worry about that. But during test fitting the passenger side one was hitting a AC Coolant Line??? Should I jack the motor up to help this or what? I dont think thats gonna be good for my AC is the header is resting on the AC line haha...thanks for all the help guys!

same here, i got 2 steel plugs from lowes and just took off all the air/ smog junk. just make sure you plug up the hole in the intake and keep the old wires off and away from the header.
Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
I made my own AIR fittings for my TPiS longtubes using some fine thread nuts I got at the hardware store.
Don't recall the size exactly at the moment, but it was pretty common.
I had them turned down round on a lathe but that's not really nessesary.
If you need the AIR for emissions you can weld the nuts
that are the same thread as your fittings to the headers
and it will work.

Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
Funny. I'm installing the same headers (although coated) in my 95 Trans Am and had problems with the air fittings too. With mine however though, the air tubes from the stock manifolds fit ok to the headers except it because extremely difficult to turn past a certain point, i ended up rounding the nut on the air tube. Luckily i managed to atleast get it off. Looks like i'll be capping it off also. I was hoping to keep this car emissions legal though, oh well.
I managed to slide the passenger side in pretty easily after jacking the motor up.
Does anyone happen to know the size of the cap that is needed?

Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
I just put in pacesetter lts into my car today, and was happy with the headers overall. The AIR fittings fit only when I put the headers in a vise and turne them inwith a big pipe wrench. VERY hard to turn, and not really in the right location on the driver's side. The EGR was ok except that I stripped out the bolt hole and had to use a longer bolt w/locknut.
Re: Pacesetter LT Install Help!!!!!!
On my pacesetters I got two 7/8 (I'm pretty sure but not positive) fine thread nuts and had a shop weld a piece of metal on one side and used it for a cap. Thats on a 96 though and I think the hook ups are different.
Well guys I dont know but I think I have officially given up on Pacesetter...
After just welding the fittings onto the headers cause they were not fitting, I put them in to test fit. Driverside goes in fine and bolted up great. The passnegerside on the other hand is a mess. The front tube is not high enough and it rests right on the low pressure line for the AC. I could not bolt it up all the way because I cant ge the front two bolts in because of that pipe being in the way. So to see if maybe I could crush the primary tube of the header a bit and that would give me a clearance I needed, here is what I came up with...

As you can see I made about 1/4 - 3/8 room for clearance, but all that did is give me room to bolt the header up but the header still rests right on my AC Coolant line. So after seeing that I took out the passengerside one and wrote up this post. I think I am going to call Pacesetter tonight and B*tch about this because I have had too many problems with these headers. All I read was good praise about how these headers fit the best, are easy to install, and everyone loved them but mine on the other hand are not working at all. If anyone has any info or suggestions, that would help out a lot. Thanks
