Pacesetter Long Tubes - your opinions
Pacesetter Long Tubes - your opinions
My boyfriend is modding his '97 30th Z28, and he is looking to get some Hooker Long Tube headers. We all know that they are more expensive then other header brands out there. I was wondering want your opinions are on Pacesetter headers, and if anyone has them on their LT1s or LS1s, how satisfied or disatisfied you guys are with them. Thanks!
Re: Pacesetter Long Tubes - your opinions
I'm happy with both the Pacesetter headers and the Pacesetter y-pipe. Considering the headers are a slip-fit style header as opposed to the Hooker flange style, I dont know what other y-pipe, besides Pacesetter's own, will work. Otherwise, I think for the 550.00 I spent for both the ceramic coated headers and the y-pipe, it was well worth it.
Re: Pacesetter Long Tubes - your opinions
i've had mine on for about a month and i love them. my car is lowered and i haven't scraped on anything yet. i was considering the hooker super comps but the price just wasn't worth it
Re: Pacesetter Long Tubes - your opinions
I think the Pace are just as good as the Hooker, and easier to change spark plugs on , thats a plus on these cars.
Only problem is i have had to change heads on four cars already with headers, three with pace(including mine) and one with hooker. It takes 3min to pull the six bolts bolting the y-pipe to the headers on the hooker but it takes 2-3 hours to pull the pace apart if they are clamped down tight against the y-pipe.
The FIX-- When you buy your pace headers, Before intall, take them down to an exhuast shop and have them weld the 3" flanges onto the headers(if coated you will have to grind/sand off the coating near the welds) Then install the headers , take the car to the exhuast shop and have them install the y-pipe, they will line up the flanges on the y-pipe then to match exactly the ones on the headers. Now you have a high quality set of race headers that will come apart just as fast as they went together.
Believe me you dont want to try and pull the slip style Pace headers apart after unbolting a set of hooker headers.

Re: Pacesetter Long Tubes - your opinions
I got a set of coated pacesetters at the start of the summer. They work great. I didnt tell much of any seat of the pants difference between them and my mac midlengths though. They are decently priced as well. I also have the pacesetter y pipe. And am happy with that as well. It was the easiest exhaust piece ever installed. Im just not looking forward to removing it from the headers if it ever comes time for that.
