pace setter headers vs hooker headers
i have about everything on my t/a except headers, it pushes roughly 400rwhp so what i really want is a good exhaust, i am not looking at cutting it cheap but wherever i can save money is great...so my real question is the difference between hooker and pacesetters worth the 115 or are they just over priced... i was also thinking about doing a 3" pipe and cutting it off before the axle if i dont like the sound i will throw on mufflers...what you think of the sound, and what headers are overall better?

I've got hookers but if I could do it over again I would def. go with the pacesetters bc. they are cheaper and have a slip on Y-pipe, which in my opinion is a lot better than hookers 3-bolt flange setup

Hooker/Jet-Hot. Installed Pacesetters on both LS1 and LT1 cars. Unless your motor mounts are fairly new you will probably have fitment issues around the steering linkage. In both cases (98 TA and 94 Z28) the linkage had to be ground a little and with the TA too far as the linkage broke and was replaced. Won't find that with the JH/Hooker style header which is also IMO better quality plus being 1 3/4" in the primary whereas the Pacesetter is 1 5/8". Anything that isnt of top quality will never come close to my car but the Pacesetter is still an excellent alternative and cheap at that. Just what us 4th gen guys need. For some Pacesetter is the way to go but if you're looking to step it up in the future with your mods/performance etc. then get a nice used set of Jet-Hots.

Ive had both hooker LT and Pacesetter LT on my car and the Pacesetters are by far a better fitting, higher quality, and better plug and ground clearance header. There is no comparison

i'm sportn the pacesetter LT's and they were a PITA to install. but i guess it's going to be like that if your going to get the longtubes.
my pacesetters came with paper gaskets as well, (weak). So that's another expense to think about. Oh and my smog pump wouldnt thread in the bungs they came with, so that was eliminated and i found some brass fittings to plug the bungs with.... just something to think about.
They cost less for a reason.

Fitment was not an issue at all for me - I don't understand how it didn't thread in...I know I had to bend the crap outta AIR to hookup square, but no problems with EGR. Go without them anyway, it will make the install easier. I could have gotten both in from top if emission fittings were not in the way.

Ive put both on, and the Pacesetters LT definately look like the better engineered peice. They are both 1 3/4 in primary and 3 inch collector.
The Hooker always seems to leak around the slip tube on the drivers side and the 3 bolt flange is a stinker to get to seal full time. Slip fit with a SS band/strap clamp is the way to go.

Pacesetter: 16 guage tubing, 3/8" thick flanges, 1 3/4" primares, 3" collectors, coated, arguably easier install and better fit than Hooker/Jet Hot = $411 shipped
Hooker: 18 guage tubing, thinner flanges, 1 3/4" primaries, 3" collector = $420ish uncoated
Jet Hot: same as Hooker but 16 guage, 3/8" flanges, 1 3/4 primaries, 3" collectors = $500
Unless you want the absolute best LT like a stainless steel QTP or Kooks for around $1000, Pacesetters are the way to go.

I would Def say go with the pacesetter's. I helped a friend put the Hooker LT's on his 94....and I put the Pacesetter's on my car. Neither Header swap would be called easy, thats for sure...but I would say that the pacesetters were much easier than the hookers. The pacesetter flanges are far thicker and nicer. The plug access seems to be better on my car w/ the pacesetters. I would surely get these again. Put the extra couple hundred bucks ya save into another future mod.
