P0410 secondary air injection

What will cause this code to go off. I checked the fuse going to the air pump, it looked fine. The reay going to the pump checked out ok. Could it be the pump itself? Is there somthing else that could cause the code. I found a big *** hole in the plastic silencer tube on the intake elbow after the MAF and plugged it. Thanks

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

on OBD2 cars, if the pump is bad/unplugged, it will set a code, or if the system is'nt hooked up right

is there power at the fuse?
can you hear the AIR pump run when you start the engine?

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

P0410 has nothing to do with the AIR pump electrical circuit and fuses.

The code sets when the PCM cycles the AIR pump, and doesn't see the extra air flow showing up on the O2 sensors. It doesd a passive check on startup, looking for a lean condition when the pump is supposed to be operating. Then it does an "active" check when the PCM is in closed loop, turning on the AIR pump and looking for a high O2 content on the sensors.

Could be a fualty check valve, a burned hose on the piping, etc.

P0412 is the code you would get for a faulty electrical cricuit on the AIR pump.

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

OK today i left the code on for a while without clearing it and drove around for 50 miles or so. It had 2 P0410 codes, two 2 codes for low catylitic efficiancy or somthing similar, i think it was P0420, and a code for the EGR not working properly. Is there one thing that could cause all of these. I found a leak in the intake elbow behind the MAF, plugged it and still got the codes. Thanks. It has delteq igntion, i dont know if this could cause these.

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

If you plugged the AIR inlet, then you would probably cause the two tests that Fred talked about to fail.... If there is supposed to be a HOSE there... you might need to find it or get a new one and hood it up.

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

The hole was in the resonator tube that comes off the intake elbow, it was rubbing on the crank pully or somthing. It wasnt somthing that was sapposed to have a hose hooked up to it.

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

Does the AIR pump operate (can you hear it)? I believe you can actuate it through the relay. If that checks satisfactory, then try pulling a check valve from the manifold and see if it actually flows air. If it doesn't, the valve could be bad, or somewhere in the pumps inlet/outlet must be a restriction.

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

Is the air pump on the driver side? I think its working, how would i actuat it through the relay? Where is the check valve? Sorry for all of the questions and thanks for all the help.

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

Yes the AIR pump is on the driver's side just below where your coil sits. The check valves are the disc shaped things just off the exhaust manifolds. They look somewhat like the EGR diaphragm. To actuate the pump you'll need the wiring diagram. You can pull the relay and jumper power to the pump through it. Pull the AIR suction tubing off your intake (just before the MAF on the lower back), and after you "turn the pump on", feel for suction. No problem on all the questions, that the point of the site!!

Re: P0410 secondary air injection

You need to become familiar with Shoebox's Tech Pages. He has photos and detailed schematic diagrams of all the parts you are asking about:
