Angry P0100/p0103 1997 Z/28 Threw Codes

Just threw these codes last night, I was driving and the car literally CUT RIGHT OUT for a mear second so when I got home I scanned it and got "P0100 - MAF Sensor Ckt. Insufficient Activity" and "P0103 - MAF Sensor Circuit High Frequency" What in the hell happened now, This car seems like its had better days, last week the car wouldnt start, had to wack the starter with a hammer 5 times, its been fine since but its always got me wondering if its gonna start again. Someone please help me with those codes so I can fix the damn thing and get it over with...

Check your connections and wiring and especially if you have done any work recently that may have routed any plug wires near the MAF wiring. The MAF wiring can be susceptible to electromagnetic interference.

I havent done any work besides an opti swap 2 months ago and its been fine til that happened last night, and it still runs fine. just had that cut out, WEIRD, Is my MAF ****ting the bed?

Anyone? I deleted the codes this AM, havent come back so far. Who knows what will happen though, Can these codes just throw sometimes given a bad condition or something and then never come up again once cleared? Im stupmed like usual here, someone please help...

I had those codes for like 4 months, car ran fine, maybe not 100% but more like 85% cause the fuel/air ratio was probably off. I tried everything but nothing worked, so I bought a new MAF, no more codes. They sometimes get too dirty and the little sensor thingys go bad

well the codes came back, under WOT it cuts out , whats the part # for a new MAF? or should I just go with grantelli

don't buy granetelli. Waste of money. Either buy a new stock one or look for a used one for cheap.

I'm gonna have to start looking for a MAF then. Thats a royal pain in the *** when you get on it and its coughin like it does. sucks, coughs then pulls like a **** then spurts, not cool man.... thanks for the info though..

OK I don't want to just start another thread, but these are the exact problems that I'm having with my 97 as well...

I'm getting the P0100 & P0103 Trouble codes as well & I have pretty much ran out of options at this point. I have cleaned the MAF, I have checked for 12 volts at the pink wire (it's there) does anybody have any other suggestions?
Here is a little description on how the problem started: I installed an electric waterpump and I was letting the car run to check for leaks and about 10 minutes later the car all of a sudden died out and for about 5 minutes wouldn't restart (it would turn over & start but die right out) and tripped the SES light so we scanned it and got these codes. Then after a little while it started back up and seemed to be ok then I took the car for a ride and the same codes came up again....

I also thought that I would reply in your thread since you had the same problem as I'm having, what worked for you?

Jeff,
MAFs on OBDII cars are for some reason much more sensitive and prone to failure than on OBDI cars. I'm wondering if it would still throw those codes if you put the OBDI in.... Either way, look for a new MAF. I bet it will fix your problem.

Thanks Ion, I just edited my post...

I had the OBD1 in there before when I had the blower on but I had the "high stall" problem...

I will have to try to replace it I guess

have you checked fuel pressure. A friend of mine had the same codes, so i checked the pink wire and everything else was ok. HIs fuel pressure was at 10 psi at idle, changed out the pump and problem solved. hope this helps u out.
