Oxygen censors
Oxygen censors
ok heres my question...i have a 94 z28 and my o2 censors are what my mechanic called lazy...they dont react wuickly anymore and its causing a bad backfiring and a ses light to come on...
instead of putting o2 censors back in can i put simulators??? is it bad or what will theis cause???
i though u had to have the front 2 o2 censors on any z28 to read amounts of gas needed??? or is that controaled by maf or what??? i know you can get o2 simm for the rear on an obd2 car but what about obd1 qith only 2 o2 censors???
and with the bad o2 censors and beckfiring after 500 miles do yall think my plugs are bad???

Re: Oxygen censors
O2 Sims are for the rear o2s only (on 96+ cars). The rear O2s measure your exhaust to see if the cat is working but if you remove the cat these 02 will set a code thats what the sim is for. As for the Front O2s (the ones your talking about) these read the amount of oxygen in the exhaust to see how well the car is running and the cars computer corrects accordingly so if theres are bad then the car will run bad. Thus you cant simulate these. New ones are like 70 ish?? for bosch and are faily easy to replace
Re: Oxygen censors
Not sure if you have a pre-cat and post cat O2 sensor setup like my '97 Z, but I've read and have been told that the pre-cat O2 sensors are critical for the fuel injection engines. You can wire up sims for the post-cat sensors, but NOT the pre-cat ones. I did a price check on some sims and they are as expensive as the sensors themselves.
I have also found out that the post-cat sensors only check the efficiency of the cat and do not affect the driveability of the car/engine.

Re: Oxygen censors
Even though the bosch sensors fit the car, many people haven't had good luck using sensors other than the AC Delcos. Shoebox gives good advise as usual, stick with the AC Delcos.

Re: Oxygen censors
I just ordered a set of Walker O2 sensors from Ebay for $102. They looked to be a better design to me.
Has anyone used these before?
Here is a pic i took of one
