Unhappy overheating t/a

i have a 93 trans am that i just recently replaced the head gaskets, did a tune up, cap and rotor, plugs wires, etc.....now the fans won't come on until the temp gauge is almost to the red checked the fan motors with a straight wire to the battery and both come on. replaced the relays, and that did not help. new temp gauge sensors also...still same problem. when traveling at normal speeds, car will hover around 160 degrees or so, but if i stop at a light or intersection, the temp will start to creep up, but will not go into the red. please help?

My car does that too. So I just bought a manuel fan switch and fixed it right up.

Have any air in the system? Mine hovers down there briefly then comes right back up. It's been this way for years.

Re: overheating t/a

I left my bleeder screw open for like 1 minute strait and my temp dropped about 100 degrees. IT was pretty cool. This was after changing water pump. So air can raise the temp signifanctly.

Re: overheating t/a

That's pretty normal, it happens to me too. Until of course I got a 160 thermostat coupled with custom programming for the fans. Now the car never goes above the 1/4 mark.
