Also be suspicious of Dexcool sludge clogging the radiator. If you have a mud like substance under the radiator cap in the neck of the radiator, you probably have a sludged up radiator and heater core. Does your heater work?

if your coolant is orange its dexcool and that stuff slugges up bad, but not to worry drain it, then pour CASCADE in it and fill with water let it get hot then let it cool down then you can pull the thermostat and flush it out while its running

ok...i checked the car out today and i filled up the car with coolant. it actually took alot of it. while i was pouring it in the car, i heard a leaking noise and saw that it was leaking from the water pump. right from that hole that you guys where talking about. now that i know where it is leaking from, what do i do next? i have to replace my whole water pump?

i think my car does have the sludge in it. how do i clean it out? i might as well since i have a leak that i have to fix.

thanks alot for all the help guys. :-)

Whatever you do, make sure coolant isn't leaking into your optispark or you thought you had a problem now...you'll have an even bigger costly problem. It's located under your waterpump of all places
(Good ole' GM design).

If it's leaking from your waterpump there's your problem right there...

OMG every body is a bunch of pussies about opti's, if it gets wet guess what? it will dry!!!yeah i would flush the motor and all with the old pump on it and after you get it to flow clear water then replace pump. but regard less according to your other post your fans still arent coming on!

yah, your right...i totally forgot about that. my fans are still not comming on. i when i put the coolant in it, it did not over heat as fast.....nor did it really over heat. it just got up to the last quarter mark. but the fans still did not kick on. what could be the problem? i think i am just going to wire them to manual fans so they could be on all the time.

how do i go about flushing the coolant system???

I don't know much about the fans...? Manual fans will work, I'm sure.

Change the water pump. You will need to replace the whole thing. It's not a real easy job...but it can be done. As I said earlier...Auto Zone has reasonably priced refurbrished water pumps...or a bit more expensive...brand new chrome ones. Where you get it is not nearly as important as that you doget it .

About flushing the coolant...you will drain most of it out when the water pump is changed. If you want the radiator "flushed" then take it to a garage. I don't know anything about that. Maybe another guy on here could help you.

Also, I'm pretty sure our year recommends that we run the "orange" coolant. I doubt it a real big thing...but I would suggest running whats recommended in this case. Post what you find out...
