Overheating/Cooling Fans Update

Well I am sure some of you know I have been hunting down why my cooling fans will not come on and found some info that I wanted to run by everybody.

First here is a rundown of the whats been done. New 160 degree t-stat, new hoses all around, new radiator cap and new temp sensor in front of water pump. The temp does not rise very fast but slowly just works it's way up to almost touching red on the gauge.

I grounded the H and J terminals on the C100 connection and both fans come on with no problems. I have jumped the connections on the diagnostic port under the dash and both fans kick on. I put each fan relay in the fog light relay socket and every relay checked fine.

Now, I was reading in the manual I have that you can test the ports for power at the fuse box where the fan relays plug in. It says I should get power from the #1 port with the key off and then power from the #5 port with the key on. Here were my results:

Relay #1: Fine

Relay #2:
Key Off
#1 socket gets no power
#4 socket gets power
Key On
#2 & #4 socket get power
#5 socket gets no power

Relay #3:
Key Off
Nothing at all
Key On
#5 socket has power

I guess there is some wires totally crossed somewhere? Would any of these wires be located in the large (48 or so pin) C200 connection under the dash?

Thanks,
Mike

If you have done this, there is no problem with the fan circuitry. I would monitor temp with a scanner and see if the PCM is commanding the fans on at the correct temps.

Yeah thats what I thought so maybe all those readings are just off since it's from a chilton/haynes manual so I didn't really trust the results I got from that test.

I will pick up a scanner and see whats going on as that seems to be my last option at this point.

Thanks!
