overheating

Hi guys, I have a 97 Z28 that I'm having a problem with. The other day I noticed my water pump was leaking antifreeze. Now my car hadn't been overheating or anything but it was getting low on antifreeze and my low coolent light kept coming on. Well today I replaced the waterpump with a rebuilt one from NAPA auto parts. It was a pain to replace but I got it done. However now my car is overheating, bad. I fired it up after I got the pump on and it wasnt' 10 minutes later until the temp. gauge was reading 260. I used dex-cool antifreeze and I even went back and changed the thermostat because I thought maybe mine went bad. However it still keeps overheating. I hear the fans kick on but it seems like it takes forever and the car has to get pretty hot for them to come on though. I didn't think it took that long before. Also I had my dad add some antifreeze while I had the car running and I gave it a few rev's and then it spewed or burped some anitifreeze out the radiator. I don't know if there's air trapped in it or what. I hate to have to tear it all apart again, but if I have to I have too. I have checked all the connections to the fans and other parts and everything appears to be okay.

Re: overheating

reminder...the distributor is right under the water pump so if you mess with the water pump at all, make sure you have a towel or some cover over your ditributor. Wetness will hurt it. Be careful.
Check your oil to see if there is any sign of AntiFreeze in your oil which may be a sign of a blown head gasket. Any sign of antifreeze leaking under the car or from a hose or from a rusted out freeze plug on the block? I had a freeze plug rust out on me once on one of the other 93 Z28s I had.

Re: overheating

Sounds like you didnt follow the coolant bleed procedure SHobox's site should have it. What I do is filler up with antifreeze while cold. Start up the car, then i bleed the upper hose screw, then close it once waters coming up. THen do the same with the lower hose. Then do the upper hose again, then the lower again just to make sure.
Once thats done i turn off the engine, double check the radiator and put more in till its full if it needs it. Then just run the engine for a while, and bleed the upper then lower hoses in a bit.

Remember to watch them very carefully as once they start to bleed coolant, itll bleed right on your opti So stop bleeding as soon as liquids coming out.
