overheated

My 95 LT4 constantly overheats. Yesterday, my mechanically enabled friend came over and realized that the heater hose was touching the manifold and had burned a hole through it, releasing all the coolant and caused me to overheat the first time. He has to get a special hose, so for now he bypassed the heater core and rerouted the hoses. While he was there he replaced the thermostat. So today I was driving it to pick up my little sister from the mall today and it started on its way to overheating. It was about 250 according to my gauge. I didn't go far enough to cause it to overheat, but it would've. Could bypassing the heater core cause it to overheat? If not, why????

Here are some pics of what was removed from my car. I have no idea what he did exactly, I just remember what he told me.

I think he took the hose from the red circle and put it on where the blue circle goes.

Did he just replace those hoses? If there are new hoses there maybe he just didn't properly bleed the system afterwards. There is a brief description on Shoebox's site on how to do this. Look under the heading "16. Easy Thermostat Changeout" here: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#thermostat_change

No, the hoses are still waiting to come in (special order). All he did was bypass the heater core. All those parts are still waiting on my counter. (thats the old tstat. its only there because its lonely)

You need to bleed the air out of the system. He deleted one of the brass bleeder screws (on the pipe in your hand), but there is still one on the thermostat housing. Follow the procedure on Shoebox's page for eliminating air from the system.

Well, I bled the air out of the system and it stopped overheating. Now that I got my hose repaired and am going to put it back on, I need to know if it matters which hose goes on which side of the heater core. I don't remember which end goes on which.

Shoebox has a diagram of the heater hoses. Hook it up the correct way:
