OverHeat? Coolant mixture?

My Formula says on the radior to only use corect mixture?

well what is the correct mixture?

i wanna make sure my car has enough water cause it tends to heat a little bit, it gets over to about 235-245 range never more but, im just worried and wanna make it get cooler... perhaps its because it just because its almost 100F outside

but what can i do to keep the tempatures down to about 210 or lower?

correct mixture should be about 50/50 of water/coolant. You can buy pre-mixed coolant if you're lazy. I think our cars came with the DEX-cool stuff from the factory if im not mistaken, and you have to do a complete flush to change to the green stuff.

That seems like its running pretty damn....i say replace the thermostat if you havent already.

they say to change from dex-cool to green stuff, you need to do a COMPLETE flush...including the block. ive never done it cause its a biatch I hear, so if you have questions about that, ill let other ppl that have done it step in.

You might want to include a "signature" with basic info about your car, like the year, trans and any major mods. Not all LT1's are the same. 93-95 came with "conventional" green ethylene glycol coolant. 96/97 (and possible some overlap in 95) came with the "extended change" orange Dex-Cool ethylene glycol coolant. You can't mix the two.

The stock fan "on" temperatures are 226degF for the first fan, and 235degF for the 2nd one (or low speed/high speed - depending on what year your car is... they are not all the same). So, the temperatures you are seeing aren't unusual if the ambient is in the 100degF range.

Since your car is apparently a recent aquisition, you should do a complete drain, flush and replacement of the coolant. And be sure to use the proper procedure for bleeding air out of the system. Very important on the "reverse cooled" LT1.

The stock cooling system is more than adequate, when using a 50/50 mixture of water/coolant. You can gain some cooling capacity by increasing the water percentage, but then where you live and the winter temperatures may become an issue.

Once you are sure your system is clean and running the proper coolant, you might want to consider goint to a 160degF thermostat (stcok is 180degF) and having the fan on/off temperatures reset to keep the coolant under 200degF. Generally found to be beneficial on the LT1.

Since you don't want to mix coolants and also since it is a lot of trouble to completely flush the coolant out, I would just stick with the type of coolant you have. MHO.
