Overflow tank question...

I am running 2.75'' pipe through the battery hole on the passenger side of my 96 Z28 for my front mount intercooler. The bad news is I have to replace the overflow canister with a relocated one. Does anyone know how big an overflow tank is necessary for our application. Please keep in mind I have a be cool radiator so it has a little bit more water than the average system, but not much more.

If anyone has any pics/part numbers/ideas you think I could use in overcoming this minor set back I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for the help.

If you use a container with a dip-tube that goes all the way to the bottom of the container, you can mount the container at any level. The bottom of the tube remains submerged in the reservoir coolant, and the radiator vacuum pulls it back into the radiator. That's the way the stock reservoir works.

Look at the range of the marks on your stock reservoir. Fill the reservoir with water until it is at the "full-cold" mark. Then measure the volume of water you have to add to bring it up to the "full-hot" mark. The difference is approximately the expansion volume required by the stock cooling system. Get a container that has at least 1.5X that volume. NHRA minimum volume requirement is 1 pint.
