overdrive?

Ok, im tryin to understand my trans a little more. When should I drive it in drive and when should I have it in OD. Is drivin on the highway in drive potentially bad for my trans? And how bout at the track, what should I run it in?

Re: overdrive?

Just keep it in overdrive all the time.
Unlike previous versions, the 4L60E is electronically controlled and when you floor it will shift at the same programmed spot every single time. Mine always shifts at 5800 at WOT (as indicated by the tach anyway).
The only time I drop it down manually is if I'm messing with someone and I don't want to have to wait for the transmission to downshift two gears.
Using 3rd (drive) on the highway will drop your gas mileage as well.
Usually people tend to not beat on these transmissions too much because they're expensive and when they break, they usually keep breaking.

Re: overdrive?

At the track, I place mine in "D"... IN city driving and below 40mph, I usually drop it down to "D"... 40+ mph "OD"... But I have a '93(4l60) and valve body has been modified..
