Re: Over heating

What method did you use to bleed the system?

Re: Over heating

Sounds like the system still has air in it because of the no heat issue. Can you hear air bubbles at the radiator/cap after you shut it down?

Re: Over heating

I used the two bleeder screws it's bubbling like a2gr said so I'm bleeding it again and it's a lot of steam and air coming out hopefully that does it

Re: Over heating

I open just enough to get the smallest amount of air and water out and run until there is just straight water for a bit. Make sure you use a towel and don't let the coolant drip down. Once you get it, its pretty obivious.

Re: Over heating

Well did that yesterday it seemed promising but same results does anyone have an idea on the heat core Maybe I heard you can run water through it to see if it's blocked this car hasn't had heat for a very long time 3+ years and always over heated in summer or stopped at a long light ? Thanks again S

Re: Over heating

I have had trouble with bleeding before. Take a hose off of the highest point and fill the car with water till water starts to come out of the disconected hose. then reconect top it off and try to blled it again, you may have a large pocket of air trapped that the nromal bleeding technique is not moving

Re: Over heating

If you haven't done this already, when you run the car, make sure you have your heat all the way to hot and fan on high. This will make sure the coolant flows thru the heater core and gets any air out.

Re: Over heating

Aluminum heads are good performance wise as opposed to the stock LT1 iron heads.....but you should check the oil for milkshake. If it has milkshake, then you need new head gaskets. If I were you, I would disconnect the feed/return lines for the heater core, and run a garden hose into the feed line to make sure there is no blockage.

Red arrows means feed line, blue arrows is return

The coolant system in the LT1 is set up to flow coolant through the heater core all the time. There is no shutoff valve in the system. Turning on the heater will remove heat from the coolant that is already flowing, but it won't change the coolant flow, and it won't help eliminate the air.
