Out of curiosity...CC306 + 1.7 rockers = ?

I'm looking at getting a larger cam than I have now (currently a 218/224 0.495"/0.503") to bleed off some compression down low with my new setup. I'm looking at possibly using a CC306 instead. I have a set of 1.6 rockers and a set of 1.7 rockers that I can use. I also have a set of K800 valve springs installed that are good up to 0.700" lift.

Lift numbers with the CC306:
0.544"/0.576" with 1.6 rockers
0.578"/0.612" with 1.7 rockers

Just out of curiosity, if I decided to use the 1.7 rockers with the CC306, would it be worth it, or should I just stick with the 1.6 rockers? The heads are stock (will be smoothed out a touch before they go back on), so I'm assuming there's a point where more lift becomes less beneficial. Any opinions, or am I just plain nuts?

They're LT4 rockers...but a buddy of mine local already has dibs on them if I don't use them. I'll let you know if I don't use them and if he backs out.

I would tend to think its not worth it if your not gonna have fully ported heads. Stock heads get turbulent above .55o" I believe, so why add more lift when the flow stalls.

Cool

I wouldn't use the 1.7 rockers unless your heads flow well above .600. Seeing as even most ported LT1 heads are about stalled out at that point, they would most likely be a waste.

my 2 cents worth

That's pretty much what I figured. I guess I'll stick to the 1.6s if I end up with the 306 and sell the 1.7s.

I would think that is too much lift. Would piston to valve clearence be an issue?

Possibly...if I were to go that route, I'd clay it first to make sure nothing touches. I'm still debating on keeping my current cam...I need some better inputs for my compression calculator to make sure everything will be OK. It's not taking a couple of things into account, so I might be able to get by with the cam I have now.
