otvc wires

i'm doing my header swap one of these weekends if it ever actually gets nice and i can get my car to the shop. i keep reading that most people go with otvc wires. my question is, do ya have to? what are the benefits of doing it? what all would i need to do it? i did the search and didn't really come up with the answers i was looking for. thanks in advance guys! oh, i don't remember what my sig is so its a 97 lt1 and i have pacesetter longtubes

You certainly don't have to, at least not at first. I don't have the same headers, but I grew tired of burning up the same two wires. Once they are on you can decide, maybe the won't burn.

You dont *need* to, but the primary reason to use OTVC looms is
to keep the wires from being burned up by the primaries. It also
makes the engine bay a little nicer to look at.

I was using the stock wires and routing for a couple of weeks before getting my OTVC setup put on. With the long tube headers, it will work, but you will most likely have to secure a couple wires away from the header primaries with cable ties.

I went about a year with the stock style routing after my pacesetter install. Then all of a sudden (which plug number it was escapes me) just burnt at the boot while driving.

So far after a year I've had no problems with the Thunder Racing Taylor OTVC kit.

Plus I like how the wires look....

if you do get them i don not recommend the kit, the taylor wires it comes with blow, you can get the looms from summit, they are called "made for you", and get some good wires like msd

Quick question for you. Did you have any problems regarding wire length with using the MSDs? I know the Taylors are cut to fit (which I can't stand. Leaves too much room for error).

Take your time= no error. When they are cut to fit, if you take your time, you will not need to zip tie them away from the headers. Mine fit perfect, no burnt wires. Kit was from Thunder racing. It was well worth the $100, 4 years ago.

I never bothered with mine. Most of the stock boots had metal heat shields on them already. I moved them around and put them on the boots that were really close to primaries. The others I put reflective tape on. Anytime I'm under the hood I do an inspection of all plug wires (and any other wires that are close to the headers) and I've never seen anything that looks like trouble. Honestly I've never understood the big deal about OTVC wires. The stock wire routs are no where near the primaries... it's the boots that come close- so how OTVC would be any different, when they have boots too? Maybe I'm missing something.

well, all i can tell you is that when i did my pacesetter, i installed aurora 8.5s otvc with every boot having a full metal jacket on it...i had 2 burn off on me so i figure its better to be safe than sorry. the way they were routed definately looks better than before, and im confidant moreso knowing my wires wont burn off this way...not that they would if they were routed underneath..just youd wanna keep an eye on them is all
