Oring came off with water pump.

I noticed a metal o ring when i took my water pump off, it fell on the ground. I didn't see where it came from and i was wondering if anyone knows? I think it probably goes on the shaft between the pump and the engine, is this right?

Also, do i need anything else like this or just put that back on and put the pump in, put in the screws, put hoses back together and thats it?

Re: Oring came off with water pump.

if you're simply reinstalling the same WP you took off, the ring is the WP driveshaft seal. youll see how it sets against it when you reinstall.

I took my old pump off and am replacing it with a new, remanufactured one. Would the remanufactured one have a new seal on it? Because i dont see where it would fit anywhere on my new pump (old one is already gone) or the timing cover.
