Original "LT4" motors

just a question

aren't the original LT4 motors used in corvettes DOHC setups?

if yes, why do they call the "LT4 heads/cam" package LT4?

maybe im mistaking it for the LT5?

Re: Original "LT4" motors

LT4 is a pushrod motor. You are confusing it with the LT5.

Re: Original "LT4" motors

The ZR-1 Corvette's built between 1990 and 1995 had the LT-5 DOHC engines.
The LT-4 was offered in a special addition Corvette (Grand Sport) in 1996. Most had the fender hash marks (two stripes) on the drivers side front fender.

Almost anything is possible. These are very tall motors so you will have trouble with hood and firewall clearence (It wont fit under the windshield very well).

I believe the LT-5 motors were 400 HP; there are much easier ways to get 400 HP out of the LT1 motor.

Well actually the LT4 came in:

All 1996 6-speed vettes
Grand Sport Vettes from 1996
the 107 special 30th SS cars from 1997 (100 USA and 7 Canadian)

Re: Original "LT4" motors

There is a guy here in my town who has an older Studebaker with a corvette drivetrain and a LT1. Well one day when I was talking to him I noticed an engine sitting in the corner of his garage with a cover over it. Low and behold it was an original LT5 that he said only had 40,000 miles on it. He plans on putting it in another studebaker.

Lucky dog, I offered to buy it from him but he just smirked and said I wouldn't have enough money to get that from him.
