Optispark upgrade.

I went ahead and upgraded to the 95 vented style and I was curious where the two vent hoses go into the intake at... Do they connect on the passenger or the drivers side of the intake? And about how far back.

Thanks!

Re: Optispark upgrade.

You need to buy the vacuum harness from a salvage yard or new from the dealer as there is a filter/one way valve in the lines. One of the hoses connects on the driverside about midway on the intake. The other one goes to the intake elbow.

Thanks, looks like I need a new pcv valve hose now. Mine was just a u shape before, connecting the pcv to the optispark connection on the intake side on that picture.

The pic is from a 1995. 1993-1994 use the u-shaped hose for the PCV. Intake manifolds earlier than 1995 won't have the port for the opti vaccum, so you will have to "tee" off the EGR hose to get the vacuum.

Re: Optispark upgrade.

EGR has been blocked off as well. I put a small hole in my intake and attached the one tube to the intake, then I purchased the correct fitting for the intake and put the other tube in via your diagram.

My PCV is now venting to the atmosphere. Is this ok?

Having the PCV system operating is good for your engine. It removes contaminants from the crankcase.

If your EGR system is not operating, you will have an unused vacuum port on the drivers side of the intake manifold that the vacuum line to the EGR vacuum solenoid used to connect to. I doubt you unscrewed the fitting from the intake manifold and welded it closed. You just connect the vacuum line from the Opti to the port where the EGR vacuum used to connect.

Do NOT leave one end of your PCV system open to atmosphere. It only works if the u-shaped hose is connected to the vacuum port on the side of the intake manifold. If that vacuum line isn't connected, the PCV system isn't working and all the crap from your crankcase is going to blow back into the throttle body from the line on the passenger side valve cover.

You really should make sure you have the correct answer to your question and you fully understand it before you start ripping things like the PCV system apart.... its totally unnecessary and could damage your engine.

Here's a picture of my 94, with the Opti vacuum line connected to the port that used to connect to the EGR valve, and the PCV system intact:

Re: Optispark upgrade.

You will also need a filter.... there are two blue and white discs in the line.

Re: Optispark upgrade.

Thanks for a better explanation. Does that bigger hose in that picture go to the brake booster? It looks like it from that picture. My U shaped hose was broken anyhow, so now I have to find some hose and rig something up.

Never mind, looking over shoebox's pictures I figured it out.

Thanks again.

The filter/flow reducer and backflow valve are available with the opti vacuum harness. I am not aware that they are available separately.

okay do you actually need the filter flow reducer cause mine seems really hard to blow air through but maybe that is the way it suppose to be.
