Re: Optispark replacement

Cheap and Good, No such thing, even air from an air pump.
I recently used a Petris unit. I am happy with it.

Re: Optispark replacement

"cheapest but good optispark" is an oxymoron. There is only one reliable supplier at this point, mentioned in the post above. Most everything else is cheap Chinese crap.

Re: Optispark replacement

How much does a 24x conversion cost these days?

EDIT: looks like it’s about the same price, or even less, depending on the option you choose. Unless you’re explicitly interested in staying “stock,” I’d seriously consider one of these:

$835: https://www.eficonnection.com/home/product/efi-24x-conversion-kit-w-mechanical-water-pump

$694: https://www.torqhead.com/shop-24xlink-products.html#!/94-to-97-LT1-24xLINK-PCM-with-C3-Harness/p/53109952/category=13970126 (noted price includes their base tune)

$399: http://www.bailey-eng.com/LTCC.html

There are pros and cons of each, and some require you to source additional parts. Do your research before you decide!

Re: Optispark replacement

The 24X conversions require an LSx PCM, conversion engine harness, 8 LSx coils and wires, coil mounting brackets, etc. These run the typical cost upwards of $1,500.

If all he needs is the Petris distributor, it's under $500.

The Petris “kits” include expensive extras:
  • Intake manifold vacuum conversion fittings (1992-1994 Corvettes)
  • Water pump (Gates)
  • Water pump gaskets (Fel-Pro)
  • Engine coolant temperature sensor (Delphi)
  • Thermostat and gasket (Gates Premium 180 degree)
  • Water pump shaft seal (Fel-Pro)
  • Water pump coupler seal (Fel-Pro)
  • Optispark shaft seal (Fel-Pro)
  • Spark plug wire set (ACDelco)
  • Spark plugs (Autolite APP double platinum)
If he needs all that, he has bigger problems.

While I'm a big fan of the Bailey Engineering LTCC, it requires you have an Opti with a good optical sensor, add 8 LSx coils, coil brackets, wires.

Re: Optispark replacement

The path of least resistance and cheaper than a 24x conversion is the Petris Opti. The cheap clones are something to avoid.

If a current Opti is a AC Delco with a Mitsubishi sensor, it is worth cleaning and installing a new cap and rotor. Use dialectic grease n the large O ring of AP for a bettwe seal. Loc-Tite the rotor screws
