Re: OPtispark replacement

Forums are filled with this question asked over and over. Take some time to search/read other threads. That's what they are there for.

I agree with post #3.

Re: OPtispark replacement

Delphi is not the same as Delco, since 1999 Delphi has been independent of GM.

Re: OPtispark replacement

Look carefully at your link:

1997: GM and Hughes Electronics Corporation spin-off of Hughes Defense electronics business and transfer Delco Electronics from Hughes to Delphi.
Delphi owns the Delco name.

It's dangerous to believe anything posted on Wikipedia...it's full of errors and can be edited by anyone.

The Delphi business ia a wholly owned subsidiary of the General. Delphi is, in fact, the same as AC Delco..

Re: OPtispark replacement

It's a little more complicated than that:

Re: OPtispark replacement

Not to rehash the old debate again but since you have a 94, the MSD gives you the vent option without having to change all of the parts. All other things being equal, this is one good reason to go with MSD.

I am in the middle of doing a rebuild and I have my MSD with 100,000 miles on the bench. Still works great even after degreasing and washing my engine several times. Other than my initial problem out of the box, it has been very reliable for me.

After going through 2 replacement AC Delco units before finding the MSD, I'll never go back.

Re: OPtispark replacement

Great article. I think they misidentified the old and new timing covers in the picture. The newer cover has the larger hole right?
