Optispark question
Optispark question
OBD1 cars I'm told cant shift past 7100 because of the computer I'm told. My question is what happens if you do go past that limit? Will it through a code? What exactly happens?
Re: Optispark question
What do you mean "can't shift past 7100????? If you're refering to the rev limiter, it cuts the ignition at the limit and usually every other spark. Makes it feel like you lost a few cylinders. But people like Fred could tell you in more detail exactly what happens frame by frame.

Re: Optispark question
There are no fuel tables after 6800RPM. The fuel tables go in 200RPM increments. I had my old combo up to 7200RPM before, but was pointless as the car stopped making power at 6800.
Playing with LT1_Edit, the highest kickdown RPM allowed is 8191.875, and highest MPH allowed is 255 MPH (this includes the speed limiter). And that's for shift points AND rev limiters.
And none of this has anything to do with the optispark. And I wouldn't suggest trying to use the stock PCM for anything requiring over 7000RPM.
