Optispark problems I think???

I replaced my optispark because my thermostat leaked down onto it. I went to try to start it and all it did was turn over it didn't start up. What should my next move be?

What all did you do beside the opti and is this the first attempt to start right after the install? Double check all connections first and start with the basics.

Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you indexed the splined shaft correctly to the cam sprocket? In theory it will only go together one way, due to the extra bump on the splines, but I'd estimate at least 10% of the installs manage to get the shaft inserted incorrectly.

Did you inspect the harness connector to insure it wasn't corroded or a pin damaged? Did you check the ends of the plug and coil wire to make sure they weren't damaged or corroded?

This is my second attempt at it,when it didn't fire up the first time I took it back apart and made sure the second time that I had number one on top dead center.

I hope that I got the splines in there correctly I wiggled it around so that they would insert in there. I am going to double check the connectors though.

Thanks for the help I will try the connectors. I'm about ready to take it to the shop though. Do you think I should check my coil for continuity? Do you know what pins should read what? I also heard the ignition module could be the prob.?????

I would check all other options before diving into the opti again. They aren't as susceptible to moisture as their reputation suggests.

Question: Did the car start before you put the opti on at all? If not, I'd say there's a good chance the Opti never was the problem.

I had to keep taking the opti back off because there was no way it would line up. I had the two right where it looked like it would line up and if it was a hair off no go. The last time it was as smooth as could be.

Just some advice next time you tear into the opti. Hook all the sensors and plug wires back up and try to start the car BEFORE putting everything back together. It'll save you tons of time if something isn't right.

The car ran great till it overheated one night far from home so I had an extra thermostat on me but no gasket so I put it on till I got home. I got near home and it start lungeing and acting weird and it died and would start. I then saw that the thermostat leaked onto the opti. So I replaced it and saw that the old was all rusty. It hasn't ran since. I've been working on this for probably way to long. Right now it is all together but I will chase down the spark as soon as I get a chance.

I have voltage after the coil when I turn the key and I have voltage out of the distributor when I turn the key but it still won't fire up.

Try putting a timing light on one of the spark plug wires just to see if your getting any spark from the opti. if your not then you can narrow it down to that.
