Optispark problem - Imagine that - pic attached
Optispark problem - Imagine that - pic attached
I am having a problem with my optisparks since I had my motor rebuilt. The torx screws that hold a plate down inside keep breaking. This is the second time it has happened within 4-5 months. Here are the screws I am talking about:

My only thought is that maybe the dowel pin in the cam is a little too long and it's pushing on that plate and breaking the screws. Any thoughts? Does anyone have a cam from a 96-97 out that could measure this pin for me? I believe they were shorter in the earlier years but I forget which. Any help would be appreciated.

Ok I measured it and it's coming up at 5/8ths which is .625", I can hardly believe that 5/1000ths of an inch would be causing a problem. But I do see a circular groove on the opti where the dowel pin is rubbing but I would think that it would have been worse.
Circular groove, like you can see where the end of the dowel pin is bottoming on the back of the opti drive? It should not do that.
My stock dowel pin was .650" and still was not in danger of bottoming out. I have seen specs that the max dowel pin length was .685".
