Optispark Identification
Optispark Identification
Is there any way to identify a real GM optispark? I am in the process of rebuilding my engine and I have my original optispark (it is literally broke) but I cannot see any serial numbers or id numbers on the outside of it and the required torx sockets to open it are not readily available at the local tool stores. I was wondering if maybe there were some identifying marks on the inside possibly. The reason I want to know this is because I have found someone who is claiming that they are selling a GM oprispark but the do not have a box or any paperwork to prove this. I just want to be sure that I do get what I pay for.
Thanks

If you aren't going to buy the socket to open it, you can use one of the screws from the TB. They make a good socket when turned backwards.
In order to get what you pay for, buy it from a reputable GM source. Not some fly by night operation.
Summit is a good source.
