Optispark

Is there a way to tell if the optispark is putting out a weak spark to only one plug? Or is it even possible for this to happen to one and not all? Thanks for the help.

An oscilloscope would probably tell you.

O-scope is the only way to verify it properly

The optispark routes the high voltage from the coil to the proper cylinder like a traditional distributor. If you're talking about a weak high voltage spark then it's probably a plug wire. The cap wouldn't likely have an issue unless it was physically broken or something.

The PCM sends the signal to the ignition module to actually fire the spark based on the information from the high and low res tracks on the opti wheel. This is all on/off square wave logic so you cant get a 'weak' signal, it's interpreted either as yes or no. If you actually have a weak 1-out-of-8 signal problem it would most likely have to be a plug wire, or the specific cylinders carbon tracks inside the cap that carries the HV.

Thanks for all the replies. Id have to assume then that since I have changed the plug and wire that maybe it could be an injector issue on that cylinder. I know the car is running rich from time to time being its throwing a fault and that was the only cylinder that had a nasty plug when I pulled it out.

What "fault" is it "throwing"? Providing info like that might help solve the problem.

Its not currently throwing a fault. It just has a rough idle to it. It use to once in a while throw a rich fault but it came and went and hasnt thrown that in a while. The rough idle is worse once the car is at operating temp.
