I was just wondering what the symptoms are with an optispark incorrectly installed, meaning indexed incorrectly. My idle sounds normal but when I press on the gas it bogs down, has no power, and overheats. Also how do you know if you put it on correctly, ive done it going on my 3rd try. Seems like it slides on correctly, don't know.

If you're running the non-vented opti, there is a splined drive shaft that goes into the cam front and the back side of the opti. There is a single larger spline and a matching keyway in the back of the opti and front of the cam. You shouldn't be able to install it any other way as it shouldn't fit, but stranger things have happened.

Im thinking that if may be just a bad reman opti, and that ill get another A1-cardone from autozone. Putting it on the spline shaft doesn't seem like you could mess that up, because if its not on right it won't really bolt down, meaning you could tell if it were off. Knowing my luck though.. I'm just kinda curious about what the sypmtoms are if I did put it on wrong. Thanks

 

Those symptoms could be indicative of an opti indexed wrong.

 

Mine was installed wrong and the car would crank while trying to start like a WAY over advanced regular distributor. The car would not fire and I actually burned up a starter.
