opti stabilizer...

So after I purchased an EWP, I was told I no longer needed the LT1
style timing chain.

So I bought a cloyes timing set, way cheaper.

Well I was preparing for my top end build, and just realized taht the 93-94 style opti's have the splined drive that mates with the cam sprocket.
The cloyes doesn't have that.

Am I correct in assuming that I now need to delay the build *again* and go find an LT1 cam gear?

no you need to get the newer style opti or run a different timing set.

I would go for the vented opti and use the double roller

You would need to buy the cam gear from the double roller non-vented opti timing set. It probably cost the same to just convert to a vented Opti.

I've never seen this question asked or answered before, but why can't the cam timing gear be machined for the splined shaft? Can't cost that much to use a smithy on it?
.... or would that jeapordize the integrity of the cam bolts due to lack of material? I'm not familiar w/ the splined setups...

I would just convert "everything" to 95 and up configuration w/ vented Opti. I'm sure you'll like that better, once you've done the upgrade.

You can get a vented opti harness from Casper and a couple other places for 1/3 of that.

Illustrating what "thebufenator" pointed out.... you can't machine a large hole to turn it into a smaller hole.

I always thought the hole on the cam gear was relatively the same size as one which used a dowel. I learnd'd sumthin!
