Opti sheild idea?
Opti sheild idea?
Hey guys, i got a wild idea in my head today to try and cure or atleast cut down on the problem of moisture getting to the opti. I am trying to configure something will encase the opti to prevent most mositure from getting to the opti yet allowing for all electrical wiring to still go to it. I'm thinking something made out of a thin aluminum or possibly tin that can be bent to work in the location of the opti. If anyone has any insight on this idea, please share as it will help all us LT owners.

True, see, I'm new to these motors, so i have no idea as to what people are doing to prevent moisture from hendering the opti. Guess my research hasn't really brought any preventative methods to my awareness. Thanks.
Re: Opti sheild idea?
For the most part, problems with the opti are overstated IMO. Yes moisture gets to them, but it does the same for any distributor. Ours are just in a crappy location, so people complain about changing it because it takes more than 10 min like a stock style distributor.
As for a shield, dont think you would ever get one in because of the tight clearances between the pump, front cover, balancer and the opti.
If you are worried about it, RTV the case shut. Another option is upgrading to the 95+ vented style
