Definitely change it out for a new one. I got a new GM opti for
$200 shipped off the "for sale" board when I did mine. Look around
and you can find a good deal.

$100 sound like just a cap and rotor kit, not a complete opti.
As far as wires go, i'd go with an over the valve cover system. Which one you choose depends, search and you will find lots of info on them.
Re: opti replacment along with cam install?
do it, an opti of that age, if a little drop of coolant is spilled on it will finally toast it. happened to me, i even wrapepd it in saran wrap and the thing kicked it
Re: opti replacment along with cam install?
mine was aged enough that it was rusted inside. i didn't even waste my time. actually, first i did. it was broke. then i rebuilt it. didn't work so hot. then i bought a new one from GM. finally worked
