Opti Rebuild

Has anyone ever attempted rebuilding a faulty optispark unit? Thankfully i don't currently need one, but a few years back when i did, my father asked me why i didn't just rebuild it. I replied "you can't." To which he responded "well somebody's rebuilding them god*#%it!" LOL Just has me thinking, because, well, rest his soul....he has a point. Anyone? Seems like it would be nice to have a few of your own rebuilts kicking around.

Re: Opti Rebuild

The only "rebuilding" you can do is a cap and rotor, and that only takes care of half the optispark as the optical sensor/reluctor wheel (realistically) aren't serviceable.

Re: Opti Rebuild

I know somebody had a page up a couple years ago on how to...I think maybe Shoebox's page has the link? I'll see if I can track it down.

EDIT

Ok, I can't find it, but somebody had something about cleaning off the optical sensor...the best I could find was this:

Opti Spark can be cleaned!!!

Re: Opti Rebuild

Thanks for the replies, I just think it's an interesting concept...just a matter of parts availability and cost effectiveness I suppose. I'm a tinkerer at heart, which I suspect most here are... I would love to know of a parts vendor and give it a try
