opti questions
opti questions
Well I have a 1994 chevy 1500 pickup I bought at an auction it has a lt1 out of an corvette in it that has a knock, its the newer obd2 style vented opti, I have an engine out of a 1994 z28 and was wondering if I will half to change anything if I put it in?
I know the plug to the opti is different but can I just unplug the wire from the Camaro harness and plug it in?

Re: opti questions
If im thinking correctly. If you want to use the 95 stuff (i would its a better opti style) you will have to change the timing cover. So take the timing cover from the 1995 and install it onto the 1994 block and also you will have to swap out dowel pins as the 95s is longer. Just mark with a marker on the 95 pin how much it sticks out of the cam and grab a pair of vise grips and pull it out then do the same for the 94 and tap it in.
Then just use everything from the 95 that has to do with the opti and your golden. Also ill buy the 94 style opti from you if it works and has ok miles. Mine just took a dump after my cam swap

Re: opti questions
If I understand this, you are replacing the 96(?) Corvette engine with a 94 F-Body engine?
And you want to put the vented Opti from the 96 on your 94 replacement?
If so, here's the parts you need to swap, courtesy of Shoebox:

Or, are you simply going to put the 94 engine in, and keep the unvented Opti?
If that's all you are doing, you have to keep the 94 short Opti harness (which is probably still on the engine) that runs from the gray connector on the bracket on the passenger side of the intake manifold, to the Opti.
A Corvette engine has dual knock sensors. An F-Body engine has a single knock sensor. What PCM are you using? An OBD-2 PCM requires that you use a 100Kohm knock sensor. The 94 engine will have a 4.5Kohm sensor, so that will have to be swapped out.
Are you using the EVAP vacuum detection circuit on the OBD-2 Corvette engine? The 94 engine will not have the vacuum detection switch on the passenger valve cover.
