Opti question...
Opti question...
can i use a vented cap and rotor kit with a non vented opti and just buy the vacuum harness and intake elbow, someone on another site said thats basically the same as doing the vented opti conversion but without all the hassle,or would it be a waste of time???
Re: Opti question...
The "vented" Opti has one connection on the cap, and another connection on the main body. If you only have a connection on the cap, it won't work. The vacuum would have no fresh air to pull through the unit, and the vacuum might distort the cap. You could add a second vent to the cap, but then your are only venting the cap. There's a metal shield that separates the cap/rotor high voltage section from the optical sensor and wheel behind the shield.
People have done do-it-yourself venting... there's a copy online of an article from one of the Corvette magazines showing howe to do it. You need an air supply line from the inlet elbow to the main body, and a vacuum line from the cap to the passenger side of the intake manifold, plus the small filter and check valve that goes in the vacuum line. Shoebox has a pic of the connections:
