opti question

I installed the opti a few thousand miles ago and made sure it was correctly installed. I can now grab the boots of the 4 wires that enter the drivers side of the opti and move them forward and backward and the opti has some play to it, not much like maybe a millimeter or 2 but its not tight like when I put it on. Maybe its tight it just flexes some??? Can someone check this out on thier own car real quick?

Re: opti question

mine is tight to the block. THere should be no play, the opti sits flush and is secured by bolts.

Re: opti question

He is right, there should be no play. Should have three bolts to the block, and make sure the cap has all the screws in it holding it to the opti, but it still shouldn't move even if the screw came out of the cap. The three bolts that go into the block go through the cap.

Re: opti question

Well when I installed it I made sure it was flush and the 3 bolts were tight. How in the HELL could it have come loose? I mean the car runs and im not totally sure that woul de the cause of its bad running but could it have an effect on the way it runs or as long as its turning and engaged is it all the same?

The 3 bolts that hold the opti to the block do not 'go thru the cap'..

Re: opti question

There should be no play. Check all the obvious stupid stuff first (waterpump bolts tightened all the way, ect.) If there is still play, I would look into re-installing it making certain that you are doing the correct procedures and that everything is where it should be.

Re: opti question

Well, I couldn't remember after looking at if the actual opti part has the holes for the three bolts or the inner cap portion that bolts to the block. I would make sure your four screws holding the cap portion to the opti are all in place and tight.

Re: opti question

If the cap is loose, it isn't going to run 100%...
If the opti itself is loose, the opti needs to be grounded thru those bolts to operate correctly..
So yes, it could affect how it runs..
Being loose like that you are also risking damaging it.. it isn't going to retighten itself..

Re: opti question

You are going to have to re tighten the mounting bolts! Try a little locktight on them. I suspect that the Opti was not properly located on the engine and moved a little when you started the engine. Sorry you have to do over! good luck! 93zTED.
