Opti Question

I need a new OPTI because my old one got wet and my question is do I need a whole new unit or can a get the MSD cap and rotor kit for it?

I am running and MSD6AL along with the blaster coil and more than likely MSD wires, too.

Someone please help me with this!

Re: Opti Question

Have you tried letting it dry out?
Everyone cries about the opti getting wet but seems to forget ANY distributor gets wet and the vehicle dies or runs like crap till it dries back out.

I used to run offroad 4X4 trucks and occasionally we would drowned even the high rear mounted HEIs never had to replace anything because of it either just let it dry.
My opti has had several Dexcool baths that resulted in bad running at the moment but ZERO longterm harm.

Re: Opti Question

it also would depend on how the metal parts stood up to getting wet and if they corroded, or if the optical sensor and bearing failed. if it's the metal contacts getting wet and corroding then a cap and rotor might be the trick, however you need a special tool to get the cap and rotor off an by the time you buy it and a MSD cap and rotor (which is still very unproven BTW) you can get a new Delco Opti from Dal for $225 plus he quoted me $11 shipping to Colorado, which wouldn't be much more and you have a fresh opti.

when you change things out check your water pump, mine was leaking on the opti which caused it to fail.

check there for Dal's number and email. Jason was about 15-20 more for the opti and the same on shipping.
