Opti oil seal

Does the opti oil seal need to be flush with the front of the timing cover? When I went to install mine, it went farther back in the timing cover before it stopped. Will this cause a problem? Should I replace it with another seal?

As long as the seal sits tight in the cover and is the correct ID to fit around the Opti drive pin you should not have a problem. Mine is flush though. How far in did it go?? I would say anything an 1/8th of an inch or less won't be a problem but you may not have the exact correct seal in there. Personally I would change it if its not right but you shouldn't have a problem.

It probably sits back in the timing cover about an 1/8th of an inch. It bottoms out in the timing cover at that point and won't go any farther.
