Is the Distributor/opti ?? or no? because that came in the kit for 120 dollars it had everything shown but the hard aluminum casing that everything rests in

my educated guess is that you can either make a vacum tube and hook it up or just block it off if you make a tube i belive you can run it to tha cai

oh yes you will need the wp gaskets actually you should replace the pump while you got it out also if you got high miles i would replace the timing chain and gears but not the cover just the gasket as far as i know unless with the vented style there is a different cover but i dunno

The timing cover is different, the cam gear on the timing set is different, the optispark is different, and there is a crank trigger on the 95 and up.

Following the posts after this one, looks like people are confused. You said what you got did not come with the aluminum housing of the opti. So, it is not a complete opti (though your pic shows the aluminum part of the opti-more confusion). I assume you just got a cap and rotor. If you are going to put that on a 1994, just plug the vacuum port like I mentioned before. There is nothing else you have to do.

If you indeed got a complete vented opti, you will have to spend much more money to adapt it to your 1994.

Bad Opti Symptoms?

Could some of you who have correctly diagnosed a bad opti tell me what symptoms it has. I have had burnt wires before, but my misfirings now are more erratic now. I had first thought it was a bad tank of gas, but a couple of tanks later I'm sure that it isn't.

I also inspected around the engine at night and notice small (faint, but definitely there) sparks coming from in front of the wire boot that plugs into the opti. Has anyone seen this before?

I'm going to unplug the other wires and double check the back ones for burn marks tonight.
