That's the catch 22. Your opti may be fine, just that the water pump is dousing it with coolant. You can change it at the time you change the waterpump OR you can wait to see if it dries up. But, if it doesn't ..... it'll all have to come apart again.

i think i'll just change the water pump for now, because this "running like crap" thing happens when first i bought the car, then after replacing the thermostat with 160* and i did a TBB....my car took heat better than before.....so i'm hoping that my opti is still good and only my water pump is the burden...hopefully

ram air is right, it's not just a simple replacement from unvented to vented. I still don't understand why GM didn't come up with a replacement vented opti, to fit the 93 and 94. I think they could have come up with a kit. There is a way to convert your non-vented to a vented using a vented cap and rotor kit. vented opti vacuum hose ***'y. and then adding a fitting to your non-vented opti. I believe i saw it on a corvette web page somewhere. May try google search.

Well I'm just going to replace both the opti and water pump to be sure. I imagine after driving the car for a couple months in this condition the opti has been damaged.

Get a new opti and vent it yourself, You can buy the stock vacuum harness from GM for about $25.00 and the other fittings from an auto parts for about $5.00. I did mine and swapped out the waterpump at the same time and it took about 5 hours and thats with a blower and aftercooler to mess with.
