Opti disassembled - have a question
Opti disassembled - have a question
I have disassembled my opti ('94 non vented)....third one with problems in 3 years. Can't wait for a stage 2 delteq!
In the meantime, I'm going to clean this one and reassemble and see what happens. The 360 slotted disc arced to the bearing housing so I removed it, deburred the disc and the housing and am cleaning things up.
I noticed in the main housing of the opti case at the bottom, there are three holes about 1/8" in diameter. Anyone know what these are for?
I would like to plug them with silicone or rtv sealant in hopes of keeping any moisture out.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Keith

Re: Opti disassembled - have a question
They are the feeble attempt at venting that the early opti's have..
I plugged them w/silicone one time a used one I went thru [like you are]
Next time I took it off the metal shields were rusted a LOT..
NOt sure whether blocking the holes helped or caused it..
But there is my experience with it..I put a new opti on but did NOT fill the holes..
those metal EMF shields should be stainless steel..
I also one time sprayed flat black Krylon on the shields.. and surprisingly it held up WELL and prevented rust.. didn't flake off etc either..

Re: Opti disassembled - have a question
Thanks for the reply. After doing some more reading I found out just what you stated about the feeble attempt made by GM to vent the opti. Supposedly they are needed to let some ozone gases escape that apparently build up from the ignition process.
Anyway, I think I'll plug two of them and see what happens.
Can't wait for the Delteq Stage 2!
