opti differences. help needed

basically, I went to a vented opti from my non-vented 1994 setup. The opti that I bought (I can't remember what year opti I bought) has a different style plug on it. It's the 4-prong plug that is in the 10 o'clock possition when the opti is mounted. They are both female plugs, but the male plug on the vented opti must be longer. The 4 wires are farther down so the plug must be longer to connect to them.

So, can you tell me what year opti I have to buy that will use the same style plug as my non-vented 1994 opti?

Also, could I somehow conbine the two optis to one functional unit? If so, that will be the task tomorrow. This thing is going to run TOMORROW!!

The vented opti uses a harness that fit 1995-1997. The 1993-1994 used a different harness. You must use the same style harness with the same year style opti.

ahh!!! i did NOT know that. Is this harness something I can buy at a dealer or am I going to have to go to a salvage yard? Meaning, will a dealer stock this item?

is this a splice in unit or will it simply clip in?

The revised harness is included in the list of required parts on the Opti Swap Page . It plugs into the gray "test connection" on the passenger side of the intake manifold (same bracket as the EEC solenoid), and runs to the Opti connector.

Well, I ran a vented cap for a couple of years on my 93 opti by re-using the old plastic piece that has the plug housing. (see the piece on the bottom right - http://www.charm.net/~mchaney/optisprk/pic00009.jpg

I am assuming you can also pull this peice out of the non vented opti and install it in the vented opti.

It may be worth a try if you're looking for a quick solution, and you cant wait on an adapter harness from GM.

In your case - I imagine the long plug will fit in the short housing (although it may not snap/lock in) - but if you try to swap a 95 motor into a 94 car, the short plug will not fit in the long housing (OK it might physically fit and snap, but there will be no electrical contact since the plug is not deep enough in the housing.)

That's my guess anyway...

My thoughts, too.

If the retaining clip end is not sealing, you are going to get moisture in the connector. Corrosion will result and you will be chasing problems down the road. Better eyeball it and see if it is really on all the way.

those guys are right, you're going to get moisture in that plug if you don't use the proper one.

Just thought of something: If you want the proper connector (because I need one like yours) why don't we just swap? You mail me yours and I'll mail you mine. That way we both have the proper connector and nobody has to spend anymore money. Just called my GM dealer and list for the plug is $118.00

email me if you're interested.
