Opti with Deltech question

Opti with Deltech question

Delteq recommends leaving the opti alone, but in the case where you have to replace the opti anyway, is the rotor still necessary to run the optical section or can you completely take it out?

the rotor is needed to hold the optical disk in place, but many have cut the rotor to reduce the spinning mass, some one will post a link
