Angry Opti Dead inside of 7000 miles

When I built my new motor last year I converted to a 95 style vented Opti and installed a brand new unit. The car ran great until last week when it died very suddenly on the way home. I was accelerating in second pretty hard when all of a sudden a stumble and no power. I just got a chance to look at it today and I have lots of spark going into Opti but nothing at the plugs. The rotor inside must have broke.

I know there can be some issues with the cam dowel length so when I assembled the motor I measured it and it was about .620”. It really frosts my tail that these things can go Tango Uniform inside of 10,000 miles.

Anyway had to vent (no pun intended).

I bought this Opti from Jason C in the Spring of '03 so I guess I'm out of the warranty period.

The rotor probably broke. A friend broke his the same way, running it hard.

You still need an opti to run the Delteq.

When you converted to the vent, did you position the hoses correct with the vacuum restrictor? If not, you may have sucked the cap down into the rotor.

If the rotor and cap went south but the optical encoders are in good shape, you can convert to the Delteq.

Re: Opti Dead inside of 7000 miles

When converting to the Vented Opti I bought the set of hoses which have the the restrictors already installed installed. The hoses are different sizes and only fit properly on the vented opti one way.

Re: Opti Dead inside of 7000 miles

Where did you get the vacuum source from? I believe they have to be from 2 different locations so there is a pressure differential. This creates flow. If they are both from the same location (pressure wise) there's your sign.

The stock hook up uses the intake elbow as one point and the intake manifold as the other. Just trying to figure this one out.

Re: Opti Dead inside of 7000 miles

Intake air is from my air intake elbow and the vacume is from the intake manifold. I'm resonably confident that the vacume hoses are installed correctly.
