opti/CSI install(crank hub)
Im in the middle of my CSI and opti install and have a couple questions. Ok so i have read that once the new opti is in place that I should check it by cranking the car over beofre i bolt my waterpump and all of that good stuff such as sensors. Well if start my car won't I throw an engine code because 10 wires arn't plugged in. I asusme those codes can be cleared by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes but i am still worried. My second question is about the crank hub. It is hard to turn the hub(I cant turn it) The car is in neutral but I still cant turn it. When I was unbolting the pulley from the hub it turned but now it wont turn at all what is up with it. I tried neutral and 1st gear. Should it be turning in one of those. Knowing my luck I probably screwed something up.
If you simply make sure that your Optispark is installed correctly, there is no reason for this test. The dowel pin goes in one of the 3 recesses on the Opti, and it is the one that does not look like the other two. Simple as that, then finish putting the car back together.
Did u remove all the plugs? If not, that will make it alot easier, and u need to have it in "N". get a 3/4 ratchet or a long breaker bar if needed. If u dont wanna take the plugs out u need to turn it as far as u can and then wait a sec or so for the compression to bleed off and keep doint that. Curious, why do u need to turn the crank anyways? The only reason is to let the opti clear the hub is all I can think of. The opti will only go on one way, but, its easy to have it on wrong, if that makes sense?? It will only go in one of those 3 holes, the rectangular one. If it doesnt fit flush, and I mean flush, no gap at all, u got it right. Just look where the dowel is on the cam and spin the opti as close as u think u can get it. I put mine together last week and I missed the hole, it went on and ran, but it was WAAAAAy out of time. And no, I dont think I would start it with out all that stuff on the front of the motor, have some faith!!
Thanks guys, the reason i need to move the crank hub is to clear the opti, but the thing is hard to move(i can't move it). The only reaosn i thought to start it is because i did a search and they were saying to start the car to make sure the opti unit itself functioned and was not a dud from the factory(mine is a GM opti). they said it was fine to start and better to start the car befor the water pump and every thing was put together, only for a couple seconds. I may have misread the post. by the way I have an m6 i doubt that matters but the crank wont turn at all it may clear the opti but im not sure just about ready to pull the opti. the water pump is now off.
I did this just checking my opti, put all the wires on, plug it in puthe ballancer on the hub, set the pump housung on the fan shroud and plug in the water temp sensor, set the intake stuff on and plug the mas air in, and temp senser. I started and ran it just for a few seconds to make shure i had fixed the opti problem. DO NOT LET IT RUN FOR very long 30 seconds at the most bucause you have no coolant in the motor.
