Opti conections vac lines?

Hello, New guy here...been searching and can't find how the opti is set up.

I am getting a misfire code 300 on a 1997 5.7 with 84 k that I just got.
I noticed two vac lines not connected near/on cap that SHOULD go staight up to the intake and valve cover.
Funny thing is that intake hole is blocked with a rivot and the vac line from valve cover goes to a solinoid (#270something)looking device that controls a bigger tube going to what seems a air pump.
Then below the air pump is another solinoid that is tied in electricly to pump and first solinoid somehow and has two lost vac conectors that i assume go to the opti/cap area.

Does this make sense to u?

Is this some sort of after market mod?

Are those lines critical to make it work right?

Is there a write/diagram up on this?
Thanks for any help.

Thx

Your opti is the improved vented design. One line is metered air from the intake elbow; the second line has a filter and check valve in the line and connects to the intake manifold (vacuum source to pull the air through the opti). The previous owner(s) have defeated the system (not good).

The link below is from Shoebox's site showing a photo of the opti line from the intake manifold:

Ok, that matches what I have found, except for the car.
That picture is how mine is hooked up but then goes not to the optispark but,
teminates at solinoid type thing hooked to that blower.
I wonder if it all has to do with the aftermarket intake on it....
I don't know where to start, I'd like to unhook that solinoid and run the lines like we are talking about but, those things gotta be there for a reason.

Go back to Shoebox's Tech Pages, and look for the diagram of the parts included in the AIR pump recall. Appears you may have some of that work done on your car. In any case, the Opti vent and vacuum lines need to be hooked up as shown. You can hook more than one hose to a vacuum nipple on the intake, simply by using a "tee" in the line. I had to do that when I converted a 94 to the vented Opti.

check this out....I think they did the recall wrong after reading the recall mods.
It should be teed into the egr line not replace opti line. Wonder how that got messed up?
Things are looking better.

Re: Opti conections vac lines?

I'm pretty sure those air lines are to vent the opti of condensation to keep it from crapping out. Air is sucked through the opti from those lines. Thats why it is called vented. I guess the non vented ones sucked and thats why they changed the design.

Re: Opti conections vac lines?

so hooking em back up wont do anything for my misfire code?
is the cap hard to pull off and check for corrosion?
I 'm guessing the crank pully needs to come off.

I don't know about the misfire codes going away but it wouldn't hurt to try. You can get a new opti for about $220 though and if your car has high mileage it might just be a good idea to change it out. I don't know how hard it is to get the cap off. It has some weird screws in it. Yes the crak pulley has to come off. take those 3 bolts out and beat it off the hub. The hub can stay on.

Re: Opti conections vac lines?

Well, got the cap n rotor off....not too hard.
Lots of white crud on posts and rotor looked corroded on the tip.....very light rust in the opt that I cleaned out with air. At $150 it's no wonder it had never been done.
Get This-opti says "Made in Japan"
Didn't know I own a ricer....that's why it was so spendy.

Got new cap n rotor installed and need to put back water pump next.
Be running soon(NO MISS, I hope)
