The Optispark is a combo module, it includes a cap and rotor to perform spark distribution from the coil to the individual spark plugs, as well as on optical sensor to inform the computer of the position of the cam.

So when replaceing the stock opti unit, and going with lets say the MSD unit, all i would need is the MSD right?

Or do i also have to change the optical sensor?

The MSD still uses the OPTI SPARK. Every system out there that uses the stock ECM uses the Optical section of the Opti spark and there for you still need the Opti inplace. Delteq is developing a solution and it is suposed to be close that replaces the entire opti but it is not finished yet. THe MSD solution is cutting a hole in the back of you intake and installing a distributor that is only used for the cap and rotor, thats it, all other functions are still controled by the Opti. The Delteq and LTCC systems use coil pacs inplace of the Opti cap and Rotor but still use the Optical portion of the Opti spark dist. THe Dana Spark is an after market Opti sprk dist that is basicly a beefed up Opti spark. hope this helps
