Re: Opti busted into pieces on the inside?

I measured the pin again, it comes out to about .5" from the cam sprocket, then it is about .25" for the cam sprocket thickness i think. So the pin is about .7+" from the cam face. what is the max pin length that should be used on a 96 vented opti setup?

Im pretty sure that would be the problem with the opti busting as many others feel is probably the problem also.

On the back of the distributor, the yellow brown backing, is that suppose to be perfectly flat, or does it have a little shape in it? Cause one of the guys at the shop when i just went was trying to say the distributor looked deformed on the back side, but to me it looked like the way it should be, didn't seem way off or anything, just wasn't PERFECTLY flat.

Re: Opti busted into pieces on the inside?

so today i went to the shop and told them i think the pin is too long.

We ended up testing the opti by putting "play doh" in the spot where the pin rests and put it on the motor, the pin didn't press a lot on the play doh, so it seems like the cam pin length was fine.

But there was a huge spark on the inside of the opti, so im not sure if it just sparked and exploded or what happened. What could cause something like this.

I have a msd 6al box, msd coil, all new msd spark plug wires and new spark plugs.

play doh doesn't work for that, it springs back, you need to use clay

ill definitely do that then. It did seem like it wasn't pressing against the opti though.
