Opti Bad??

i just bought a 94 TA and at full throttle around 4500+ rpms the engine hesitates. i took it back to the dealer and the engine was throwing no codes. could it be a bad opti spark, how would you test it?

before you replace anything major like an opti...........

1.if you can.......monitor your 02 sensors at 4500+ wide open throttle in drive

2.check fuel pressure

3.inspect wires and plugs.....if they look old, I would replace them first before moving forward.

theres more sensors to check and MAYBE the opti can be going bad but check those above first.

well the car is still under a used car warrenty from the dealership, so im not sure what to do. seems that they will only fix what the codes tell them to, but its not throwing codes.

if its under warranty.......just give them your complaint. they should fix it. let them drive it so they can see its not right. the pcm cant figure out every problem.

I think you should check everything else out first but, I had the same problem and when I changed my opti it went away.... major pain and serious drain on wallet. Hope it helps.

Yeah, synthetic is much more slippery than the conventional dino leftovers. So while it does lube better, it is also better at finding weak seals and gaskets and finding its way out of the motor.

As far as your ignition stumble, check all the plugs and wires as was mentioned earlier. These are somewhat easier to change than the Opti. If that doesn't fix it, go ahead and get a new Opti and do the vented cap conversion and if the car is getting close to 100K miles, look into getting a new water pump.
